スキーの長さは、身長やスキーレベルにより異なります。初心者や子供は身長より短め、上級者は身長と同等かやや長めを選ぶと良いです。フリーライドスキーは長さで浮力が変わり、一般的には身長より5～15cm長めが適切です。
一般的に、身長に対してボードの長さが胸までの高さ（身長に対して-15cm程度）で、より短いボードは操作が容易です。上級者やフリースタイル志向のライダーは、より長いボードを選び、安定性やスピードに優れています。フリーライドやパウダー向けのボードはさらに長く、より安定感と浮遊感を得られますが、取り回しが難しくなる点に注意が必要です。
